Is there a shampoo/conditioner/ that will make my hair less poofy?

I'm a guy and I have wavy dark brown hair. The problem is when it dries, it poofs way out and it feels dry. What kind of hair product would make it less poofy and silky rather than dry straw???Is there a shampoo/conditioner/ that will make my hair less poofy?
I would suggest Aveda Smooth Infusion Shampoo and Conditioner with a styling product called Smoothing Style Prep. Investing in a deep conditioner will also help. I would also try using a light weight gel or mousse.

Also, (without seeing you hair...) you may want to get some of it thinned out to prevent the poofing.Is there a shampoo/conditioner/ that will make my hair less poofy?
Pantene makes several ';volume-down'; shampoos, many of which were originally designed for the Far East market, where silky smooth hair is the main goal. Look for ';sleek and shine'; or ';smooth and sleek.';

They also make PRO-V RESTORATIVES FRIZZ CONTROL SHAMPOO and an accompanying conditioner, which may be helpful as well.
